  1. 1

Cougars have the biggest hind legs for their size of any cat, letting them leap as high as 5.5 m (18 ft) straight up into a tree.[1]

  2. 2

Cougars live across about 110 degrees of latitude, from the Yukon to the southern Andes, the widest range of any wild land mammal in the Americas.[1]

  3. 3

In Patagonia, some cougars mostly hunt Magellanic penguins, which make up most of their meals in two national parks.[1]

  4. 4

Cougars learn which animals count as prey, so some cougars rarely hunt bighorn sheep while others depend on them.[1]

  5. 5

Cougars are not always loners: they sometimes share kills and seem to form small communities around the territories of dominant males.[1]
