Caring for a pet after a bereavement
Taking over a pet's Fluffifi profile when their owner has passed away
Losing someone is hard, and their pet's care shouldn't be one more worry. If you'd like to take over a pet whose Fluffifi owner has passed away, here's how it works. Every request is reviewed by our team before anything moves - a pet is never handed over automatically.
If the owner named you as their legacy contact
Owners can nominate a legacy contact in their account settings: the person they'd want to care for their pets. If that's you, sign in with the email address the owner gave us for you, open the pet's profile and you'll see an option to request to take over their care. We review it, then the profile becomes yours.
If the owner did not name a legacy contact
If the owner named a legacy contact, only that person can ask to take over their pets. If they named no one, a relative or friend can ask instead. You'll need a free Fluffifi account - if you don't have one yet, create one first. Then start a request at take over a pet after a bereavement and paste the link to the pet's profile. We'll ask for a few details so we can verify what's happened (for example the owner's name, when they passed away, and how we can confirm it, such as a death notice or funeral director details).
Prefer to talk to us?
If you'd rather not do this online, contact our support team and we'll help you through it, including starting the request for you once you have an account.
What happens next
Our team reviews your request and verifies the bereavement. Once approved, the pet's profile, with its history and health records, moves into your care. The previous owner's own posts are kept as the pet's “previous chapters” so their memory is honoured, never erased.
